In
2007/08 Southend-on-Sea residents recycled 34% of their household
waste. This is an increase of 6% from the previous year
What can be recycled in the pink and clear recycling sacks?
Southend residents are providing
that the recycling really can be easy. Sine 2005/06 recycling has
increased by nearly 13% diverting a total of 50,584 tonnes from landfill.
This equates to 1,945 dustcarts full of recycling, and packed end
to end the dustcarts would stretch from Castle Point to Shoeburyness
and half the way back again!
In 2008/09 we hope to increase this rate further to 40%, with the
introduction of a edge of property food waste collection service in
the later part of 2008. Residents are able to recycle the following
in their pink recycling sack
Paper
All paper and card including wrapping paper, shredded paper, junk
mail, envelops, drinks cartons and all telephone directories. Bundles
of flat packed corrugated cardboard can be placed next to the pink
sack.
Steel
and Aluminium Cans

containers and foil wrap
Plastic

and film wrap, clean with no food waste
